Heat transfer in electronic equipment

Here, Rich is evaluating solar loads and heat transfer in electronic equipment above the California high desert.  It is important to understand how test data is obtained, and what it represents.

In addition to testing during the product development process, the team was fortunate to get a calm, sunny 105 degree day to gather field data.  Temperature sensors and airflow measurement devices were used to gather data to extrapolate from.

As a result, these digital displays were sold with confidence, successfully, in emerging markets with hot climates.

Sunscreen, gloves (the cabinet exterior was too hot to touch) and plenty of water were required to get the field information we needed….not to mention every inch of an 80 foot JLG manlift.

Best quote of the day, referring to the fully extended manlift: “Don’t you pay good money for rides like this at your State Fair?”
